Red Garland Quintet, Soul Junction

It seems like a sideman vanity project, and may be: but “I’ve got it bad, and that ain’t good,” and “Soul Junction” are the two most played tracks ever on my iTunes. Nearly 2000 plays total.

Sure, “I’ve got it bad…” is a slow ballad in Bb (an easy key to solo in for my Bb tenor sax) and “Soul Junction” is a slow-ish blues in C, arguably the easiest of keys to play in for nearly any instrument… but, student-istics aside, this album is really good, and shit….

It’s Miles’ most trusted piano man, just chillaxin’ in the studio, on his day off, with ‘Trane and Donald Byrd… just sit back and DIG, baby.
