Gary Clark, Jr.– Blak and Blu

Tell me this doesn’t sound like an ultra-lite version of Graveyard or Witchcraft….

Those bands, with the metal excised, where you can clearly hear the blues influence, minus the threatening, menaced undertones that metal adds….

A lot of it gets overly poppy and useless, seemingly stretching-to-the-point-of-charlie-horses to be accessible and radio-friendly (I’m looking at you, title track), but there are gems on here: “When My Train Pulls In,” “Ain’t Messin’ Round,” and particularly “Numb” are great tunes.

Amazon.com link (all 13 tracks are $6, and “Ain’t Messin’ Round” is free).
